Hi Folks,
I got the Revere out the other day to repair a sticking rear brake caliper but, unfortunately after all the recent hard frosts the water pipe seal where the metal pipe goes into the water pump has started leaking. Looking at the parts fiches its a 28mm O ring but with flattened sides. Anyone any idea where to get one in the UK?
TIA
Willie

Hi Willie I presume you're referring to flattened sides after looking at your own part? If so, it's probably just become flattened after being squashed up doing its job for 15 years or so. It's just a 28mm O Ring so if you can source one locally give it a try (I have a big box of assorted O rings from a plumbers merchant and would use one from there). Try your local DIY, plumbers etc? If you want the original Honda part, I assume you have the number - 91316-MN8-000 Your local main stealer will be able to order one, or David Silver, you can easily look up a part by its number in their system; I got this result www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/by-part-number/part_91316MN8000/ - £2.20 plus P&P Personally, I'd go straight for a conventional O ring, if it doesn't work, they're not a difficult item to change and you will quickly be aware of failure You will need to drain your system to do this, so if you haven't recently changed your coolant - I would recommend you do so. It's more likely that the condition of the rubber has just deteriorated over the years, the frosts may have just put a little additional "strain" on the system. You will not thank me for suggesting, but I would recommend replacing all 6 of the rubber O rings but most importantly, the Water Pump Seal (which you will need to order from a main stealer or David Silver etc Part number = 19226-MM9-000 www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/by-part-number/part_19226MM9000/ = £2.94 plus P&P and the Water Pump O Ring (32.95mm x 2.65mm) Part number 91302-MB0-013 www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/by-part-number/partnumber_15534/ - £2.50 I hope all goes well with your Rear Caliper too! Hi McF
Thanks for those links and part numbers, greatly appreciated. I'll see if I can source the o rings locally. The coolant was replaced last year so probably is still ok.
I took the piston out of the caliper and gave it and the bore a good clean with brake cleaner and greased the piston with rubber grease before reassembling and bleeding. Seems OK now, just need to watch if it starts weeping.
