Trip to Portugal ?! You are very welcome here ... Aha ! Want to sneak some of my pictures ? :-) Just a little falvour ... You can ride these mountains, (Douro Region) and taste the famous wines ... I know my face isn't the most friendly here, but I was amazed at the time :-) Get near some rivers with your bikes (I know ... This is not an aNTy) I've had a transalp before. Great bike for off road. Not so great on tarmac roads ...(Ferreira do Zezere Region) You can even bath on the rivers :-) (Douro Region) Take a walk on some historical villages ... And taste the good food ... And sleep on these old houses...(Alentejo Region) You can visit some monuments ... (This one remembers me the lunar surface ... Serra da Estrela Region) Visit Lisbon area and cross the Tagus River on this huge bridge (20km long, I think it is, or at least it was some years ago, the europe longest bridge...) Visit some sand scupltures on Algarve .. And the beaches ... I will let them for another POST :-) Alentejo and Algarve Regions are the best for beaches and sun. Algarve is the most known region for the british I think ... It is full of them on Summer !!! :-) Convinced by now ?! :-)

Netherlands (never sure to write N or Holland, in case it causes offence.. ) Simple: Holland = a combination of 2 provinces so always wrong (wikipedia)Holland ~= Lincolnshire/Yorkshire (but much smaller) the Netherlands ~= Great Britain the Kingdom of the Netherlands ~= United Kingdom. (we just never use this) The ONLY problem seems to be the fact that a lot of Dutch people can't even get this right...as so the errors won't stop (In some languages there isn't a good name for the Netherlands....but I haven't heard of may of these...) I am up for a meet in Portugal It's actually one of the few countries in Europe I haven't been yet Hmm...wonder what the portugues name for the Netherlands is (I know the spanish one, not holanda, but países bajos) Ok, looked it up: Países Baixos (and then they say Portugues doesn't look like spanish? ) ps. If I am going all the way to Portugal....I am going to take my suzi...more comfortable on the long runs...

Cyphron, you must work for the Portuguese Board of Tourism - you're doing an excellent job of selling me the idea of a holiday in Portugal - it looks great. Why have I been content with Cleethorpes all of these years?
Buzzin - that is an excellent description of the NL / Holland dilemna. the UK / GB issue isn't clearly understood
GB = the island of Britain UK = GB plus Northern Ireland
It gets crazy after that because our legal system isn't consistent with those boundaries. Scotland has a completely seperate system and legally, is another country

So would i be right in thinking, that ( like some yorkshiremen i know, who think that Yorkshire is a country and England is another one nearby,) the 'Holland' crowd feel that they are the dominant section and actively promote the use of the word 'Holland' as the Formal name for the Netherlands? An act that we probably help as much over here as anyone, i remember the worlds cups of a few years ago and it was always "Holland V germany, etc and looking at any ads for holidays and tours it's always 'Holland' that they promote the Netherlands as.. Portuguese Ride out?....I can't take auNTy V as she is still unwell so i will be going on my Suzi as well... ;D Btw....Cyphron....Nice pics Beach scenes next.................Please.. ;D ;D

Cyphron, you must work for the Portuguese Board of Tourism - you're doing an excellent job of selling me the idea of a holiday in Portugal - it looks great. Why have I been content with Cleethorpes all of these years? Im glad you like my pics. I love to travel (by car, plain, boat, motorbike, bycicle...whatever...) and I always take my Digital SLR Camera with me. I wish I worked for the Portuguese board of Tourism !! Maybe I could travel more then ! Its almost the oposite, I work at a Bank as a systems engineer, caged into the office 8h day (or more...) ! Yes these photos were all taken by me. Some of the night shots I posted took some time and patience. They require long exposure times, a good camera a most of all a quality tripod. The Camera can't move 1 single mm... I've been learning photography form some time now, but as you can see now I started to learn about aNTys :-) And I've learnt many things about them since I bought mine, thats for sure. With your help of course. I will make a small selection of beach pictures to show you, also taken by me. I've traveled almost to all the places in Portugal since it is a small country as you know. After that, I started to expand into foreign countries. I've been in UK (just Stonehenge and London), Netherlands (Amsterdam, Haya, Delft, Kinderdijk), France (Biarritz, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Carcassonne), Spain (Almost all the the most famous places and cities) and Greece (I higly recomend greek islands, specially Santorini). Out of Europe I've just been in Mexico, Cape Verde, Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt (higly recomendable too). African Countries always make me feel a tremendous freedom level... It's all so immense, so peacefull, many wild animals... Nice for a long bike trip (as the Long Way Down trip made by Ewan McGregor). I think the next one will be Mozambique ... Let's take our aNTys and do it ?!?!! I admire people that can do this ( www.tokyotolondon.com/) ... Could the NTV survive to that ? (Transalps did)

Hmm...wonder what the portugues name for the Netherlands is (I know the spanish one, not holanda, but países bajos) Buzzin, the portuguese term for Netherlands is 'Holanda', like you mentioned. 'Paises Bajos' is the spanish term.

Great phots Cyphron, I know its not an NTV but how about having it as Decembers wallpaper anyway. I think it has the same engine block? So it cold be a CouSin? (ok poor joke No problem having it as Decembers wallpaper !! That Transalp was the 600cc version. Maybe the same block as the NTV 600. If you really mean that, let me just erase the license plate numbers and post a high resolution replica, sice that one was reduced from original. Besides the one I posted, Let me also suggest these 2 below : If you want any of these as a wallpaper, please feel free to ask, I will post the most voted one on the correct resolution.

I will make a small selection of beach pictures to show you, also taken by me. I always find photos of beaches and other wide open spaces difficult to comprehend the scale of the space. It would be helpful if you could include something to depict how big the beach is, a person is usually best and best of all is to avoid using a man, they can look so out of place. As beaches are generally hot and sandy places, it's best to be considerate for their clothes etc, so ask them to undress and leave their clothes in a tidy and safe place.
