Hello all,
HELP please. I have recently bought a low miler and was an import in its day.
I thought it was a great bike BUT now after setting off for a ride out I forgot to turn the petrol tap on, ri=ode half a mile to the garage put a couple of gallons in and set off again. in a short space it coughed and told me it wanted fuel. turned on the fuel tap and on it went complaining and backfiring on the over run. A short while later it came to a slowing stop (running out of fuel) It would not start so sent for RAC. RAC man got it running on engine start, but it would only run about 4k revs any lower it would not run. I got it home 2 miles and figured it was the primary jet blocked as it would not fire or run or tick over thinking I could have dragged some muck in.
cleaned carbs, would not start.
So far I have checked for spark, petrol pump. fuel cut off solenoid , bought a set of carbs off e bay (off a running bike) fuel to the carbs directly to the carbs not through the pump, tried to start it on engine start( it would fire but not run. checked the compression.
All is fine. What am I missing, fuel is getting to the float chambers but not to the cylinder. Front cylinder sometimes tries to fire, but not the rear one The bike was running fine the day before. I have not had the bike long and I was enjoying it but would like some more fun with it. Is their a secret. Any help would be appreciated Regards Gavin

Well-done Gavin - sorry you got no replies (I am only occasionally on here). Carbs are v v complex, might also be sorth changing furl filters and draining tank/discarding the petrol a couple of times to keep the carbs clean; also, drain float bowls now and then and inspect what comes out.
Good luck!
