I have now blasted about on my 1991 Revere for nearly a year. And to be quite honest this has been the only bike I have properly enjoyed riding. It is extremely chuckable around the corners and is the one machine that I have never had a bad days riding on. Now the issue...... The front suspension is pathetic maybe not soft but well underdamped and seems to be continually bottoming out under braking even after heavier oil and a rebuild. Also the front brake is weedy and soft. I have fitted new pads cleaned the caliper and fitted new brake fluid but under heavy braking you can get the lever nearly all the way back to the handlebar. Both of these thing are a serious let down on a great bike. Is their a simple and cheap option of changing the front suspension and brakes to something that is more upto the job?
Thanks SC

A number of options here: Also the front brake is weedy and soft. I have fitted new pads cleaned the caliper and fitted new brake fluid but under heavy braking you can get the lever nearly all the way back to the handlebar. It's not right that the lever comes all the way back. If you're sure there's no air left in the system, I would suspect the master cylinder rubbers are on their way out. Let us know what you decide to do.

After bleeding the brakes, Cable tie the brake lever back to the handlebars overnight, that may help, that is what I do. Outlaw

I have a ntv650 with a cbr600 fm front wheel, std ntv disc and caliper and cbr(f3) stanctions and inners with ntv lowers,I have had to fit bars that clamp to the top of the fork/yoke, fj1200 ones in this case(41mm and higher rise than cbr/vfr ones), it restricts the lock as they hit the tank before the lock stops do it for you(must sort before mot) The cbr front wheel is the best bit, much i mean a lot lighter than the ntv wheel and a 120 front tyre, forks i`m still messing with as the cbr springs are a bit light and I have not fitted ntv ones yet

Hi I have both a 88 Revere & 94 NTV650 and ride two up most of the time, have used them both for touring all over the UK with full luggage for two weeks and the forks have never bottomed out also the brakes have been up to the job and the lever is nowhere near the bars on either bike. I admit most of my riding is under 80mph and it may be we have different riding styles but it sounds like you have faulty seals in both the forks and brakes. When you bleed the brake and you have got it bleeding clean try leaving the bleeder done up and just gently work the lever and see if any bubbles of air come up into the reservoir? only work the lever a bit of its travel this can sometimes dislodge any trapped air. Has anybody altered the preload on the fork springs mine have spacers on top of the springs. Hope you can sort it out as they are lovely old bikes and becoming rare in standard trim. Best of luck. Sheek.

Just noticed the date you've probably fixed it by now. Sheek.
