Hi, I recently posted about my bike over revving, the problem is that when I shut the throttle the revs don't drop immediately which is a bit hairy when riding in town, I have stripped the carbs, cleaned and inspected them, I've fitted new inlet rubbers and the cables are all free and lubed, I'm really at a loss with this one, it also pops through exhaust too, any help would be greatly appreciated with this problem.

Do the throttle cables need oiling?
When you twist the throttle when parked, does it snap back into position when you let go of the throttle?
They all pop on the overrun, which I actually like.
Good luck with your problem.
Anybody else have any more technical thoughts?

If your throttles are closing, then the only other thing I can think is that you are getting fuel still going in for some reason. Did you check/set the float levels when you had the carbs off? Are your choke needle valves sticking open? Have you sync-ed the carbs? Have the idle screws been tinkered with and not at their default settings? I can't help thinking it must be carb related, one way or another.

Hi, it's defo carb related, I'm going to balance the carbs next and maybe see if I can find a cheap used set to chuck on and try if that doesn't work, I won't be beaten on this as it's a brilliant little bike to ride apart from this problem

After you first posted, I noticed that the revs on mine weren't dropping quickly once I closed the throttle. Then, last week, I started to smell petrol on the bike after a run and found the bottom of one of the carbs was wet with fuel. I bought a couple of carb repair kits and fitted these at the w/e. From my run to work this morning, it seems to have cured the problem - revs drop quickly when I close the throttle and no fuel leaking from the carbs when I got to work.
I'm fairly sure the problem was the float valve on the rear carb. I suspect the rubber tip was no longer sealing properly, leading to too high a fuel level in the float chamber.
Fingers crossed the problem is sorted and doesn't recur.......

may be worth checking the rubber diafram at the top of the carb slides if there is even a little hole in 1 that will make it be slow to drop its reves hope this helps ben

Hi is it normal for the carbs to dip down when you turn the throttle. I was balancing my carbs and noticed my this was happening. I left the screwdriver in the airbox and noticed it move so I put my hand on it and turned the throttle and the carbs got pulled downwards.
The throttle cables are good and snap back
Is that normal

well i have done a lot of work on my ntv and that includes replacement of rocker cover gasket and removing varnish from carbs and cleaning them. my ntv runs really nice now.
what i will say when cleaning the carbs is don't think just soaking them over night in carb cleaner will clean all the varnish of them it wont.
i check the pilot jet holes on my carbs i had to poke them open with a tiny bit of broken cocktail stick. if you can see the holes on the pilot jet but cant see light thru them that is something most people overlook.
