Hi guys,
Me and my brother (the welder) are looking to build a dual exhaust on my Ntv. One left and one on the right. Finding materials and making the bends is no problem. But we are stuck with the question... do the two down pipes need to be conected to each other or is it possible two have two seperate pipes??
Will there be troubles with power without a blance pipe??
Thanx

I think with a balance pipe you get a scavaging effect, look a ducati and aprillia exhausts, the head over to the hawkgt forum and search exhausts Ray

The 2 cylinder produce the exhaust gases alternately (not at the same moment, but one after the other). If the two downpipes are connected together before the muffler, the hot exhaust gases from one downpipe can use the volume of the other downpipe to expand a little before they pass through the muffler. This created a more evenly flow of gas through the muffler, which makes the exhaust produce less noise & also there's less power-loss.

Yes that is what i have read on the net. Could not find any pics of anybody doing this before. Has anyone run the ntv on two single pipes?? It would make the job alot easier. Harleys run on two single pipes but they are low reving. I read at lower revs it doesnt realy matter. But the ntv are higher reving than harleys but we are only half the revs of a monster.

My V-Strom had two pipes that were only connected by a little piece somewhere under the engine (where the sensor for engine management was). Then again....the V-Strom had a very complicated routing of the pipes...making it nearly impossible to remove the central piece....

Honda's figures will be at the flywheel, after the gearbox and power sapping shaft drive I'm not that surprised.

We will have to modify or remove the center stand to give the left pipe enough space.... will keep you posted.
