He's sleeping on it & let me know in a few days Well, so much for good manners these days. I picked the buyer up from our local train station, let him have a test ride, gave him lots of info on the bike, lowered the asking price a bit & drove him back to the train station. Because it was raining during the testride, I even loaned him my rain trousers (he was just wearing normal pants). Now he hasn't even made the effort to send me a mail that he did't want the bike!

I've now had my bike for sale for a few months. And I have to say that a find this whole proces disappointing. The point is, I've had this bike for nearly 10 years now & tried to look after it, as best as I could. Even though it's a mechanical thing, you do get attached to it a bit I originally started the sale at an asking price of 1250 euros, hoping to get in the region of around 1000 euros. After a few months of no replies, I dropped the price to 999 euros. I got one guy to come & have a look/testride, but he never even let me know that he didn't want the bike (see post above). Since then I discovered that one of the oil seals on the front fork is sweating a bit. Because I'm a totally honest guy (perhaps a bit too honest), I lowered the price to 750 euros. You'd think that I'd done enough to get this bike sold. And it's not even winter over here! But even now I get offers in the region of 600 euros. And then the potential buyer will demand I fix the oil seal first. Do others here have the same experience, trying to sell their bike ? GvS

hi de graff, sold my ntv a few months ago got 600 pounds,, that was with custom paint job.. and everything a1 mechanically, always the same buyer tries to beat you down on price.mention oil seal.. do you have the dutch ebay, may be worth putting on there..always brought and sold my vehicles with some success on English ebay. if you could afford to keep for a few months when spring arrives may have better chance to sell ,when the sun starts shining ,, all the best.good luck..

I never actually sold my bikes...so no experience there. But I did sell a few cars online and people always want the best for near to nothing. Then again, some people really do need to learn to take a closer look... First car went well. After a few days I got several calls and the first viewers was there a day after the call. The testdrive went well and they payed the asking price right away, even when I was willing to go down The other calls asked if the car was dent free (in the pictures it clearly wasn't), if the timing belt had been replaced (engine had a timing chain...), and other things like can you outrun the cops in it....(no...a fiesta 1.25 was the slowest car I ever owned*) Second car I tried selling went eh..horrible. Everything was fine apart from the engine (which was pretty much a write-off, but it did run...) Lots of people calling to pay amount X without seeing the car guaranteed....only to offer half that on arriving. I deal with these 'professionals' in this way: "You offered X, so you will pay X, if not, good luck on you travels home' (which some didn't like as they travelled 150 km!) In the end some africans bought the car to be exported...for the asking price. Some other calls were: Will I get a new MOT with the car (the engine is blown...so eh..no?), will it drive to morocco? (again...no) Third car: Even better than the first, got a call after two days, next day they came and took it for a VERY short testdrive (1 mile at most) and payed on the spot. Didn't trust it, so went to the post office to deposit the money in a automated point (that also checks the money) and then register in their name. Main thing: Make the ad as clear as possible with as much information as possible. And mostly, adjust the price to what people expect to pay for something. Having said all that, I still think you bike is worth at least 1000,- so I think the only thing holding it back is the season. *) That wasn't even the first time I came across such a strange logic. When using my V-Strom to get a burger at a drive-through, the guys behind the window were calling their mates (as it was the first biker ever to come through a drive-through) and talking in arabic/slang. Then the guy started talking to me about the bike, first some nice comments and then he asked me "You could probably out run the cops on that, couldn't you?" ... eh ... I told him "Don't know....never tried" to which his reply was something like "Sure you can, you should try!" .... After a while his mates starting arriving and gathering around the bike. Let's just say I made a hasty retreat after getting the burgers. I'm sure they meant no harm...but it didn't feel right.

Did you come to your senses, or did you manage to sell it? I was fed up with getting ridiculously low offers on the bike. So, yes, I've still got the bike. Now starting on some renovation-work: It needs new oil seal on the front fork. A job which I always had someone else do, untill now. And I'm also looking into the options to change the colour of the bike into white. GvS P.S. New tank cover in white, not cheap, but a lot cheaper than a new bike

And I'm also looking into the options to change the colour of the bike into white. Is it worth buying a s/h set of tank/mudguard/panels and paint them in white? Then you have the option of 2 colour schemes.

The seals on the forks are not too hard of a job. It was one of the first things I had to do on my revere... Just make sure you measure the length of everything before taking it out....so you can determine what level to fill the oil to. (It differs for 3 generations, see the haynes manual)

I sold my old NTV today for 750 euros. Not as much as I'd hoped to get for it originally, but I had to make room in the garage. Also, since I'd bought the V-strom, I was paying insurance & roadtax on 2 bikes.
