I make that 52mpg, which does sound a little on the low side, unless you were thrashing it. I would check your choke needles are going all the way back and possibly clean the carbs, if you weren't "enjoying" it!
My last tank was 67mpg and I've had a couple over 70mpg in the last few of months, which I put down to not needing choke in the warm weather. Admittedly my riding is mostly commuting, under 60mph, but I still manage to enjoy the twisty bits!

I usually manage around 65 mpg. 52 mpg is rather low.

I don't know how to work out mpg (I'm really bad at math), my '94 NTV does 170 miles on a tank of fuel. And that's juddering and coughing and running on imagination by that point. Could any of you lovely people work that out for me?

According to my figures the fuel tank capacity is 19l, reserve is 2.5l (I'm assuming this is included in the 19l). If that is the case then from a full tank to hitting reserve is 16.5l. 1gall = 4.54l so 16.5l is 3.6g
so 170 miles full to reserve is 170/3.6 = 47.2 mpg, which is I believe is pretty poor. My '93 is doing about 59mpg. Pete

Could any of you lovely people work that out for me? Assuming you are into reserve at that point and using the whole tank capacity (19l), I make that 41mpg, which I'd say is poor, unless all your riding's in town. To work out: - Divide fuel used in litres by 4.55 to get a value to gallons (19/4.55=4.18)
- Divide distance travelled in miles by fuel used in gallons (170/4.18=40.7)
For a more accurate calculation, fill tank to the brim each time and use the amount of fuel added as the fuel used figure, rather than the volume of the tank.

Well done Pete, you got there before me! I forgot to mention that brim to brim is best, preferably done 2 or 3 times.

If that is the case then from a full tank to hitting reserve is 16.5l. yes, these are the 'official' specifications. But even when it was running on reserve, I've never managed to tank 16,5 ltr. GvS

I once put in 18l after 260 miles (67mpg), but I was glad to get to the petrol station before I had to start pushing!

Blimey :S Yeah that's a full to the brim tank to reserve... Me and the other half were umming and arring about whether it had been rejetted by the previous owner... Looks like this confirms it haha. Ah well.... At least my NTV is faster than his! Thanks Gills

Seems like that is about average going.
