I'm looking at draining, flushing and refilling my bike's cooling system as there seems to be a bit of a problem with it. This will be the first time doing it any I'm looking for any tips or tricks to get it done as smoothly as possible. I know essentially what I have to do but am not 100% on anything.
Also if this doesn't fix it what else would cause the cooling liquid to boil after a couple of minutes of running the engine? (the fan definitely works properly).
Thanks in advance Josh

pump out any air bubbles by squeezing the pipes going to the rad, air locks can cause havok if a bubble moves to somewhere it shouldnt be

Thanks in advance Josh It's unlikely to be reaching boiling point that quickly What are the symptoms? I presume "energetic bubbles", steam and coolant making its way to the expansion tank and escaping from there? If so, you might have a similar problem to me - head gaskets gone causing hot exhaust gasses to pressurize the cooling system. I did a cylinder compression check and it confirmed the suspicion. I still have the engine on the bench to strip and sort out (only taken me 5 years )

I'm sure its the same as the Deauville...... you have to make sure you replace the coolant with "silicate free" coolant..... Halfords sell it though all I can remember is its pink!! It does say silicate free on the bottle. Could the thermostat be jammed shut causing the overheating?.....

Thank you for the link GvS, it does simplify things when you have clear pictures to use as reference.
I'm going to refill the cooling system and check the thermostat before I resort to replacing the head gaskets. I don't know when, if ever, the coolant was replaced so it may just be blocked somewhere along the line.
Would the fact that the bike usually starts on only one cylinder before it warms up and the second kicks in properly be another sign of further issues or could that just be the carb restrictors I have on it? Besides that the bike used to run very smoothly (back when the weather was nice and I had the time to ride it).
