In the near future I want to check my tappets.
This (I think) means draining the coolant. Haynes says that the coolant is 50% distilled water and 50% inhibited ethylene glycol.
Is this just a case of using 50% mixture of Anti-freeze or is there a specialised fluid I should be using ?

Just 1/2 antifreeze (I'm currently using red as I was bored with the blue) and 1/2 water. preferably distilled although I think your water is soft so wouldn't be a big issue as it is down south where it's full of crud.

If my memory serves me correct, Halfords do a pre-mixed anti-freeze. It says on the bottle it's a 50% mix. Also look for one with corrosion inhibitors designed for Aluminium engines.

ANY Ethylene glycol and distilled water 50/50 mix will do, even the cheapest of cheap stuff from Poundstretchers. Ethylene glycol will inhibit corrosion all by itself.

You can also use propylene glycol/water mix, as used in solar water heating systems, it has a few advantages over ethylene glycol, mainly in not being particularly toxic.

hi undercover.. am looking at changing coolant as well, time of year.. the Deauville system holds 2.1 ltrs, think ntv must be some where near this. all web advice, is use non silicate antifreeze, pink in colour. Halfords sell this in 1 ltr pre mixed 50-50 mix. with Honda water pumps they claim normal can damage cause wear.

I always use Halfrauds pink anti freeze as the blue stuff kills water pimps on bikes. I use 100% anti freeze, about 2 litres. never had any problems. hope this helps Rick
