In order to fit the Honda the Fuel exhaust support bracket need to be removed. I have highlighted the refixed bracket. The bracket was also flattened prior to refitting, to push the exhaust a little lower, to clear the rack. Good job the hot exhaust gas is directed away from the pannier or I would have needed a heat shield. And from another angle also showing my GvS Mudguard extender.

I went to fit a Fuel exhaust to my NTV yesterday, but couldn't remove the rusty Motad can from the down pipes. They seem to be stuck fast ! Any ideas ? I did try to remove when cold & hot, but without success.

I went to fit a Fuel exhaust to my NTV yesterday, but couldn't remove the rusty Motad can from the down pipes. They seem to be stuck fast ! Any ideas ? I did try to remove when cold & hot, but without success. Brute force and ignorance, mostly. When I replaced my Moturd with the Fuel, I ended up removing the entire system and clamped the silencer in a vice. Then it was equal quantities of penetrating oil, blowtorch and muscle (augmented by a 3ft length of scaffolding) to twist the downpipes back and forth until they decided to free off. Even then it took a few good whacks with a rubber mallet to get them all the way out .... worth it though!

If you slacken the rad bolts, it is easier to remove the exhaust system off in one, as it wil give you some more space to play with.

if you get really stuck mate, and don't want to wreck the moturd, i have some spare downpipes in a cupboard that you can have for the price of postage, unless you're anywhere near shefford, beds, and you can come get them?

When I fitted my Fuel can, the worst bit was getting the old one separated from the down pipes. I took the whole system off the bike, luckily the pipes came off the engine with no trouble, so then I had lots of leverage options. Still took lots of wd40 and loads of hammering though, but got there in the end.
And well worth it too, its a fine bit if kit, that Fuel can is.

Thanks for all the feedback Guys, as always, it's much appreciated. Thanks Lee for the offer of the downpipes, but I will see how I get on first as my downpipes are stainless steel.

Managed to remove the Motad exhaust from the NTV today. It took plenty of heat & WD40, plus a lump of wood & a Club Hammer ! Managed to do it without removing the down pipes which was a bonus. Fitted an oval mini stainless Fuel Can, & can only say I'm well chuffed with it. Not only does it look & sound good, unless I'm imagining it, it seems to run better also. I couldn't resist removing the baffle to see how it sounded, & wow, it sounded great, but a bit too loud for my neighbours when I'm leaving the house at 6am !

Hi folks
Just installed a fuel exhaust today. My set up it like in the pick above with the pannier rack. As for getting the old one off, i did of course check here. However I took a slightly different route. I used an angle grinder. YOU MUST BE VERY CAREFUL IF DOING IT THIS WAY. Firstly I chopped of the bulk of the old one. Then tried to push/pull etc etc. Wasn't really working. So, using the angle grinder i VERY CAREFULLY cut a seam along the length of the remaining pipe, which lies over the down pipes. WARNING: If you go too far you will cut into the down pipe. I really just went as deep as i thought I get away with without going all the way through. I then used a screwdriver to start an opening along the seam and then vice grips to peel the old exhaust back at the corners. As the metal bent it I could slowly grip more and it split along the seam and the old exhaust simply pulled away after about a 1/2" of the seam had split. It only took 10mins but clearly there's a bit more of a risk to it.
