looking good.
Big fan of "silver smoothrite"
keeps rust away and passes the 6 foot test just fine.

6 foot test is good enough for a winter hack, main thing is it keeps the salt off the metal.
Spent a while getting it back to the metal & applying jenolite, it was all pretty solid & good for another 20 years or so.

Just noticed I don't have good shots (any currently) of your bikes on the website gallery. I see to remember you posted a front on shot of your Moto Guzzi at one point.
If your want them on and have some good side shots. Be good to load one of your Revere with her kit on, rather than stripped down,

The Revere which I'm about to take apart & use the bits on the one with less miles that I'm doing up: I'll have to get some decent pics of the guzzi, or better still a video with sound.

Looking a lot shinier than mine I'm off to get some Hammerite next weekend, I've got a lot to do!

Only the rear part of the frame is shiny, the rest is distgusting.
Just been out with the Jizer again & taken yet another layer of grime off it, but it still needs a few more applications of that.
Had a look at a rear indicator which I took off & the stem bolt sheared, well, the rest of the indicator (cables, orange cover, screws) fell apart too, so, I'll be looking at a whole new set I think. Kinda expected.
Centre stand is rotted, so that's got to come off & be replaced with my spare. Speedo housing cracked. Tank dented (genuine Revere dent then), switches dodgy looking but work, but better ones on the Revere I'm scrapping. Clutch cable fell apart when I pulled it, but I always have a spare on hand. Carbs work but a bit gritty on the springs, think they need a soak in petrol for a few days.
So, all pretty standard for an old Honda. On with the work.

But here's a link to a site with the Haynes manual: wbieniec.kis.p.lodz.pl/moto/ntv/indexe.htmlI think the last chapter has a section about fault finding. Good luck GvS

OK, so the restoration has got to the passing MOT stage & the next thing is a new front tyre (MOT guy & I agreed that it was getting marginal & I ordered a tyre whilst I was there, getting it fitted tomorrow). Ran the bike for 72 miles, very tappetty sounding, hope it's just those valve settings & not a top end gasket, but could be. Overheating in traffic & fast motorway, fan does not come on so need to look at the switch for that (probably just swap it for the known working one on the old bike), thermostat can just be swapped over. Water pump is working as the temperature did reduce at medium speeds & loads quite quickly. Still need to swop over centre stands, paint the front part of the frame, paint the tank. Plastic welded old front mudguard & painted. Swapped carbs & cables, both handlebars with switches. Sorted all electrics for lights, indicators, seapped ignition switch/lock, seat lock, new rear indicators, etc. Going to put my HID headlight setup on it Need to make some spacers to put the screen back on. Definitely getting there.

Hi Julie...
Sounds like it would have been simpler to move the low mileage engine into the other bike!
Anyway, once you've got the good one done, what are your plans the the rolling chassis of the other???
I may be interested if you want rid of it.....

Rolling chassis is possible once I've finished with it. Engine is good but has a broken exhaust stud, so requires front cylinder head removal & some fettling. Frame is good, rear shock good. gearbox has the usual 2nd gear that slips out on higher mileage ones. One OK fork (right side), one no good (left side). Front wheel showing corrosion, tyre good but slow puncture, but it's a Maxxis so wasn't going to risk riding on those. Tank dented (of course) carbs OK but gritty. Rad good but tatty, etc etc etc.
Plan is to e-bay the items if I need to, but could do the whole lot.
Current problem of overheating on the bike I'm restoring traced to leaks on the pipe between the two cylinders, the O rings have gone hard so got new ones ordered. Also small leak on front water pipe union, so probably the O ring gone on that too (also ordered).
So, currently off the road until the bits arrive again. Oh well, I'll have to keep riding the Moto Guzzi ;D

Fitted the new O rings to the water pipe between the two cylinders, quite difficult to do as it's a little tight in there, used fairy liquid on the O rings which made the collar much easier to slip over them, will report on bubbles from the cooling system next, lol.
Checked the thermostat, it was in pieces, nice, thermostat housing with known working thermostat salvaged off the old Revere & fitted, now to test the water system again to see what leaks next.
