I have been chatting to one of our members Ed about his electric projects and thought that some of you may be interested. Ed tells me this is a long term project, (so do not expect the same rapid progress that we have seen on other projects) I do not think he has any plans to run in the electric TT, but that is the ultimate potential for these bike. (or at least the one he has started to develop ) White 20" Feet Forward ("FF")200watt ready for Anglesey 2007 30mph+Black Head-Forward ("HF") 350watt ready for Goodwood 2008 Strengthened, a lot, ran at 800watt / 50mph+ in 2009 ("ragged-edge" - quote, scrutineers)Cedric's streamliner, Shakespeare County Raceway, 2009 TTXGP HF in build, 20/7hp presently (90hp, is the target fun but it will take a lot of hard work and hard earned cash.)
I am not looking to start either a pro petrol or pro electric discussion, but more to expand and interesting form of transport. I even found a mountain bike yesterday capable of 40mph off road which did make me think this could be fun. What electric two wheeled vehicles have you seen ridden or fancy a play on?

I have been chatting to one of our members Ed about his electric projects and thought that some of you may be interested. This is very interesting, thanks Ed and RJ for introducing it to us. I have a few questions already: What power source? I assume rather than a very long extension lead they use batteries, but what sort are they and where do they come from? What type of motor is used? Ex washing machine or something like that? What is used for the speed control - I'm assuming something like a volume control Ed tells me this is a long term project, (so do not expect the same rapid progress that we have seen on other projects) Or the not so rapid progress that I'm demonstrating with my aNTy and the two beemers... Two years since the frames were powder coated? and very little to show for it since! If a job is worth doing, it must be worth doing well

Hi, McF Sir, sorry for the delay in answering your questions, health glitches got in the way Except for one Electric-Assist Pedal-Cycle ("EAPC") I use deep-cycle lead-acid batteries For the "over-developed" racing EAPC, I now use 3 12v. 22a/h "HillBilly"-type golf-trolley batteries Motor, controller, throttle, and some of the switchgear come from a Chinese battery scooter On the larger racing Two Wheel Electric Vehicle ("TWEV") I presently have 6 65a/h "Optima YT"s The 500-amp 72v.+ Curtis controller is on loan from Paul Compton, a Scrapyard Challenge expert The present, Cedric Lynch designed, "Etek" permanent-magnet DC motor is a general-purpose light electric traction motor It is capable of 48v to 72v, and up to 150 (continuous) amps If the TWEV-racer proves viable, I aim for an Agni racing motor and some Lithium batteries Then the fun begins More soon (I hope...) All the best Ed

oh what a big one you have ;D Hi ed. I opened the offending picture in Microsoft Paint. Then selected the Image menu & then the option Stretch/Skew Typed in 40% in both horizontal and vertical boxes. The result of all your hard work. She is coming on.

CB500S of 1999 Front lower frame detaches, as standard, to ease engine removal That inspired the (almost...) Quick-Detachable battery-rack My first attempt at a "Cordless Motorcycle" More soonest All the best Ed

To show me how to shrink the image in the dreaded PhotoShop thingy, but I failed I will see if there is a Ms Paint free download!........... ("Stand by for some more elaborate foul-ups, then.....") All the best Ed

Clearing away some long overdue admin this morning and came across a few back copies of the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) magazine. Splashed across the front page of one was "Electric Bikes - the way of the future" Especially for Ed, here are the scanned pages Click the thumbnails for larger images
