1766 km later...... Just got back from our trip to the Belgian Ardene and Vosgesen mountains in NE France- 1776km and the bike was amazing even when we were fully packed up. In Belgium the roads were bad - no they were a nightmare, for all two wheelers - big holes and cracks even on the motorways but some of the smaller roads were really bad 40kmh max We found a great campsite 7km from Houffalize on the banks of the river Ourthe - no clubhouse disco or a shop just peace and quiet Camping Rensiwez Hoeffalize Google Earth .. 50° 8' 12.37" N 5° 43' 18.54" E Blondje making the sandwiches on the picnic table next to one of the many Second WW memorial tanks in the Ardene After a long day in the saddle time for a "chouffe" or two NE France is very beautiful but very poor - you can buy a reasonable old house with some land for about €30,000 but there is no work there - just mineral water, forests and farms most villages have their own "spa water" but I preferred the chouffe "the cockpit" (strange name that) lots of bugs on my windshield after just one days riding The NTV650 is a great bike to tour with especially when you take much too much baggage with you like we did - lots of power for those steep hills - good handling on the bad roads and sharp corners - and 20km > 1 liter average over 1776km was better than I had hoped for. We plan to go back to the Vosgesen later this summer I cant wait .................................

A great trip and some excellent photos. Pleased your aNTy was reliable for the trip and served you so well.
My experience of Belgium roads is the same I'm afraid. Makes our English roads look postively wonderful

Looks a great trip Certainly some luggage there! I agree with the NTV handling when loaded up. It does very well to handle. Only managed a worrying wobble when filtering in traffic when fully laden. Great pics

Must be the year for travelling.
Thanks for the pictures makes it come to life.
Shame there is no work but the house looks like a major DIY project.
Hope your next trip goes as well.

1766 km later...... Just got back from our trip to the Belgian Ardene and Vogesen mountains in NE France- 1776km and the bike was amazing even when we were fully packed up. In Belgium the roads were bad - no they were a nightmare, for all two wheelers - big holes and cracks even on the motorways but some of the smaller roads were really bad 40kmh max You managed 40 Km/h on that? good man! ow eh....let's not translate that townlimit sign shall we? And on translations: La chouffe = de kabouter = the gnome (as in garden gnome) methinks... They are lovely....just always be carefull, sometimes they come back in the morning to torture you... If you ever see La chouffe N'ice. Drink 1, maybe 2 if you are brave....more then that and the next morning will be the last time you tried that....ever.... Looks like you had a very nice trip The vosges (Vogesen) is a lovely area, I visited it last year on my strom.

Looks like we solved that 'too much baggage' problem now we can take the kitchen sink as well

All set for this years meet up in the UK then? Should tow well with the weight low down. Wheel looks a little small, it may bottom out on rough roads Good reminder about you trip though. I will add a link on the website. www.hondntv.co.uk

so far so good - i've made a few test runs with a load of about 40kg (max50kg) and it was ok - steering is a bit 'light' but a lot nicer to ride than a fully loaded bike - FreeBird has a very sturdy frame and a nice Koni Shocker as well so I doubt if its gonna give much 'bottom' problems (I'll make a photo next time I remove the body)

Really nice post and pics. We have been to the Vosges two or three times with the kids, camping but in the car. Now the kids are gone and the tunnel is nearer to us I would like to get there soon. There are some great little camp sites. All good value even with the exchange rate as it is. Beautiful country without going to the Alps. Happy days!
