Doing a 236 journey up north from wiltshire today, and broke down on the motorway (M6) luckily got recovered, but am not sure what cause the issue.
I think its the solenoid starter and relay as the 30a melted, but it was still intact, i put a spare in, but still nothing, battery is ok, and everything else seems fine.
The power died at 80mph overtaking, but managed to coast to the hard shoulder, and RAC, god love them..... picked me up 3 hours later, and on my relay cover completed my journey, all advice appreciated.
I'm hoping to get it sorted soon so i can get home. But i'm almost sure its the solenoid starter at the back, because when the RAC bloke applied direct power to the battery it almost started, but you could tell something was making the power short.

That sounds like bad news from badville; bad news city At least your recovery package got you to your destination, but you will clearly need something to help you get back home There are a couple of members (eg Norfolk) who could be within reasonable distance of your current location if you can advise where that is. I'm afraid electrickery isn't my strong point, but I have PM'd a short messgae of support with my mobile if you want an electronic shoulder to weep on

i'm in lancashire at the moment, when i press the ignition the neutral dims, but all other electrics work ok, i think it literally is the starter relay, because it almost starts, i'll try what you hav said, but i have a feeling your too far out to help in person.

tried putting a spanner over the connections to no avail, it just blips up the rev counter and makes that cranking noise, does that mean its the starter motor.
I put an new solenoid magnet and fuse kit back there and it still doesn't turn over, im preplexed

I need some sort of help otherwise im stuck here in the North, or at least my Ntv will be.
I need to eliminate if its the relay or the starter motor (if it would be that) but i have changed the relay now, so starting to think its the motor, it makes a clicking sound, no turn over?

have you tried another battery............clicking sound from the relay sounds like the battery

I was keen for him to try another battery in his bike and his battery in someone esle's bike, but he's drawing a blank on people he can ask. He is up in Lancashire at present, so a little further north than you

Well if you can possibly get this way that would be great, i think there is still a issue, as i have had the bike running, but it seems to want to cut its self out from idle. and earlier kept doing so, we charged the battery overnight and it read 13v ish, so its got better, will see if it has maintained this, and it is rising slightly while the bike is runnig, so not certain and could use the help

when running it should be 14+ Volt on tick over I would say between 13 & 14,5 volts. If the voltage is too high, then your "spanningsregelaar" ( sorry, don't know what the english word is) is broken and you'll have all sorts of electrical problems. Google translate: spanningsregelaar = voltage regulator ;D GvS
