thanks oddjob1, not my garage lol-and if this rear shock doesnt come back soon no doubt I'll be kicked out bike and all!
As for the electrics, they are a real puzzle;
Battery ok Fuse ok Bulbs ok Connector blocks ok Wiring presumed ok (as H/light W/light comes on)
Theres no oil in the sump but surely that would force the oil light to actually come on. Its a mystery-any help would really be greatly appreciated, I want to get the front on, etc but wont with this looming over me!

Just re-read my post, Sorry rj2para (Bisto) (Bisto) I didn't reply: That finish on the pipes is basically using the following: Black & decker mouse 80grit 120grit 180grit 240grit 2000grit Alu (polish) Autosol (better polish) Just go throught the grades of polish from lowest to highest making sure all deep scratches are gone at each stage leaving an overall equal finish before going up a grade then finish with the fine stuff and a bit of metal polish. These are shiney but I havent gone crazy, you could go 40(for extreme scratches), 80, 120, 180, 240, 320?, 600, 800, 1200, 1500, 2000, polish, polish -that would leave a mirror shine (but I my reasoning of it being a despatch bike stayed my hand!!!

Cheers Boz, I assumed you had missed it in the rush to work on the bike. I lookforward to seeing her in one piece. My down pipes are in very good nick so I assume they are stainless. (test area called for ) Thanks Roger Just re-read my post, Sorry rj2para (Bisto) (Bisto) I didn't reply: That finish on the pipes is basically using the following: Black & decker mouse 80grit 120grit 180grit 240grit 2000grit Alu (polish) Autosol (better polish) Just go throught the grades of polish from lowest to highest making sure all deep scratches are gone at each stage leaving an overall equal finish before going up a grade then finish with the fine stuff and a bit of metal polish. My down pipes are in very good nick so I assume they are stainless. All of the header pipes were stainless as standard. Simple way to check - try a magnet on them, it won't stick as easily to Stainless Steel. (It won't stick at all to good quality Stainless Steel)

hi,
Quality job on the paintwork, as to the electrics, check the rear earth on the left hand side of the frame, if thats good i would get the multi meter out and start tracing the loom from front to back,
I had a split wire where it comes out the frame and does a u bend up into the head lamp. i presume that is due to it bending and flexing alot. It took out my oil pressure light and a few more.
The loom is pretty standard, by that i mean what the colours are at the front they are at the back as well, if i were you i would get the haynes manual as well, and before starting the job write on the manual where the bits are on the bike for ease of reference, and then tick the wires off one by one,
It is a lenghty process just to find one wire thats probably broken, but once found it is an easy fix.
Hope that helps

cheers smartie, that sounds like what I'm going to have do- earth on the loom is good so I presume its the neutral/earth that the lights all join to on the loom thats been buggered...might just check the front before I get the multi- meter out(like I said I hate electrics lol). As for the rebuild- I've come a long way, got the shock back today and have managerd to get the motor running but cant go anywhere cause I 4got about the final drive oil- so new question is... what is hypoid oil and where do I get it from and what would everyone suggest? I have seen gear oil (80w....) in halfords but thought I better check the proffesionals (you lot) opinion 1st

hi,
replied on your other post, the 80w gear oil from halfords will do the job perfectly. just don;t buy more than a litre if possible. cause you don;t need that much.

Hello every1, The bike is basically finished! Ive sorted out the wiring thanks to smartiedarkblue's advice , it was two split wires in the loom that runs from the clocks!!! Neutral light has also been sorted. A cb500 neutral switch is a perfect replacement as it has a slightly longer 'element' so was a straight swap with a new washer!!! Its just passed its MOT today as well! ...I know you are all desperate to see it so here it was yesturday -but I have a few more little things to do before I will change my avatar lets say! I will do a proper post tomorrow as I think I've left a big chunk of the rebuild out in my haste to get it ready for work-never fear pictures coming tomorrow!!! ;D
