Just been for a quick bimble before heading out to a family dinner, all was well here: (back road from Forfar to Brechin via Aberlemno - Google it if you're interested). Got to Brechin and headed home via the back road throough Colliston Careston & Fern (Google ....), going fine apart from the sheer quantity of cr*p on the roads until here: From this point back to my house (just over 10 miles) I was restricted to 40mph downhill, 20 up, accompanied by the most horrendous crunching gearchanges ever. "Pray tell, what could have befallen you?" I hear you ask. This: Yep - "Hello WEMoto, can I have some new throttle cableage please?" Ah well, I got home alright on a (very high) tickover, just too many memories of similar rides on a Puch Maxi .....!

Great photos and a wonderful adventure (except for the final 10 miles of course ) Could you manage to get enough purchase on the exposed cable to open the throttle?

Could you manage to get enough purchase on the exposed cable to open the throttle? Unfortunately not, routing it out the side of the tank as in the pic meant it was at the wrong angle to turn the butterfly (and trapped a bit by the tank itself), while trying to get a straight run out the front (by the thermostat) gave me all of ½ cm of rusty cable poking out where I could just reach (fingertips only) by going flat on the tank - not exactly the best position to be in on that type of road! Topbox now contains about 4ft of electrical cable which can be understudy in future, just in case! Any more 'just in case' stuff in there and I'll be wheely-ing everywhere!

The cables both snapped? how did that happen? Or did one snap before and you didn't notice? Ow well....perhaps a good tip for long trips....take spare cables

Ow well....perhaps a good tip for long trips....take spare cables The 'push' cable must have gone before I got the bike, so the pull cable and spring have been doing all the work. I didn't notice 'cause I've never ridden an aNTy before so accepted the throttle feel as it was .... As for running with spares - always used to on old nails in the past, with the spare cables run alongside the working ones ready to swap over quickly, but modern nylon/teflon-lined jobbies have made me go soft (in the head). Old age y'know!

I'm clearly doing something wrong here... my revere has only ever had a pull cable and it's never caused me any bother...I figure why buy two cables at £20 when one seems to do just as well!
