I met up with an old mate today who wanted to do two things one was try out his new bike BMW 1100S and the other was it should be round the lanes. Having the A272 on my list the last time we met at Loomies I thought I would pop back and give it a go. I have to say the road is fab, flowing bends capable of being taken at speed apparently. The road I would say is great two up if you want to get a move on as overtaking options are short and double whites are long in places. Which would make a fast group ride a pain, I guess we could all head out at five minute intervals and meet for tea at the ends. That said a steady group ride could also be fun. We started with tea and a burger at Loomies, then rode to West Grinstead for another cup of tea (also in the sun - Oh I love summer) Then back to Loomies for more tea then home. The car park at Loomies was quieter this time but still a good bunch of bikers. I approached Lomies from the south up the valley and with two speed traps on that road it is one I will approach with care in the future. Biker cop and a van, not that they had much chance as cars and bikers were all warning each other. The only problem was that on the way there my speedo died which removed the guilt of speeding, not that I was you understand. Then on the way home it worked again but then died. I am now off to read our speedo thread Pic of the bike. Click for larger version.

I am now off to read our speedo thread Sounds very much like the metal plate in the drive gear. There are tangs that engage between the wheel and the speedo drive. Over time they get flattened (or worse - crack off!). As your speedo is working intermittently, I'd guess they are just flat - fingers crossed for you. Take front wheel out and look at the plate. You should be able to bend the tangs back sufficiently to engage between wheel and speedo drive and all will be well again. You should be able to do this in a hour or so. Report back with news and photos

Hi Mcf Is the Tang I need to bend inside this thing which looks to be threaded on the front wheel spindle? Cheers Roger

It's not actually inside the Velocity Indicating Mechanism (VIM) (the drive shown in your photo) but it does engage inside the VIM drive if this link works and shows a photo, it's item 7 (right on the "watermark") 216.37.204.203/Honda_OEM/HondaMC.asp?Type=18&A=68&B=37&Action=OYou do not need to remove the disk to get at items 7, 16 and 17
