Since some desperate (for want of a better word) individual stole my Belstaff trousers containing the only key for my '88 Revere - I know I should have had a duplicate made, but I've only had it 3 weeks and hadn't got round to it... - while I was at work yesterday, I have ordered a new ignition lock and petrol cap (so I will now have 2 keys to deal with) but also need to be able to remove the seat. Is there any way of doing this without drilling out the barrel of the lock? I'm assuming that I won't be able to get more keys even with the serial number, since I can't get a genuine Honda ignition lock (and at £185 I'm quite glad it's unavailable) and I'd rather not have the same keys anyway as some lowlife scum has the original and knows where my bike is. The seat lock on my other bike (Ducati M900) fell apart naturally and I just pull the cable to release the seat - I haven't missed having a lock on it for 7 or 8 years now, so it won't be a problem on the Revere either, but I'd like to get it off with the minimum of damage, specially as there's no great hurry (unlike the ignition and petrol cap,as I need to use my bike every day and the tank's less than half full...)
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Paul

Here's a photo of the locking mechanism with out the seat.

And this link will give you an exploded view of the mechanism. You've somehow got to reach the steel cable marked with "2". Good luck. GvS

Thank you for that - I'll try to hook the cable. It was surprisingly difficult to open the petrol cap, as I couldn't pick it and it was tricky to drill. Brute force won the day so at least I could put some fuel in while waiting for the new cap and ignition lock to arrive, but if I can avoid drilling the seat lock, I shall! Paul

I managed to hook the cable and release the seat, which now opens with a bit of nylon string and a toggle! If you release the front of the seat cowl, it's just possible to see the cable where it runs next to the frame. Luckily my seat cowl is knackered anyway and pulls away easily. I also managed to get the old ignition lock off - had to remove the top yoke - but the replacement was too short and is being returned.... I'll try to post a couple of photos which may help if anyone else has the same problem.
