Hi Everyone,
Thanks to great help from one of our members I have a replacement reg/rec mounted up along with a new battery.
First impression is that everything is as it should be. Once I started up I have a voltmeter across the battery. I run it up to 3000 rpm and the voltage stays stable at 14.39, it varies only by hundredths. If the reg/rec was not working properly the voltage would be up past 16 volts or so wouldn't it? Thus cooking the battery. Information anyone please. Not too worried about getting on the road again but you lose a bit of confidence when you have a breakdown.

I did one of the checks from the Haynes manual re. supply to the reg/rec. It confirms supply voltage to reg. Check voltage from red/white to green on the supply connector block, should read battery voltage with ignition ON. That was ok so I thought there would be no voltage with ignition switched OFF but was the same. Manual is not clear. I wondered if a faut on the ignition switch may have been draining the battery. Just getting paranoid! Should I forget it and get out for a ride!? Any ideas? Thanks.

Yeh, right. Did about twenty five miles yesterday, stopped about halfway and checked battery voltage with headlamps on (twin) was charging ok and no other problems so feeling good.
