One feature that the sv650 has is the fuel tank is on a hinge and can be swung up for easy access to the air filter carbs. I've got a bare metal tank awaiting respray and wondering is it worth trying to come up with some hinge system, either welded or bolt on ? Has anybody attempted this in the past...

I do like the SV650s very nice to ride and it goes well Any chance of a pic of your tank? I still like the cafe racer look. Not sure on the comfort though. I would need another bike first.

I no longer have my sv650 sold end of last year.
I did mod the tank hinge (sv650) slightly by cutting away some of the metal so that the tank hinged back further out of the way so as to allow more access to the carbs.
Going full guns trying to get my revere up and running what with all the nice sunny riding weather im missing.
What i'm looking at now is fabricating a hinge system for my Revere tank.

Hi noakira I see your thread and it made me wounder as I like the idea and decided to jump in deep and try it.Still got to weld a plate on the front right or left side to bolt it down but I am chuffed with the result so far here is pick but it's propped open with a old seat post lol any thing is possible cheer's it would of been easier just buying already made one for the sv and welding it on but that's not a challenge

Howdo titch11 for a second there I thought you'd welded it back to front Anychance you can upload a close up ? i searched through my box-of-tricks in the garage a few weeks back and found a couple of different sets of heavy duty mild steel door hinges that with a bit of cutting and filing could be made to work. However I kinda concluded that a totally bespoke approach would be better. The SV650 hinge or pivot has a dogleg offset which the long bolt hole section on the ntv tank lends itself to anyway. Been meaning to sketch up some ideas. sv650 tank hinge up close off ebay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-SV650-1999-Fuel-Tank-Hinge-Bracket-/330536116256?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item4cf57ce020

I think it would be easier to fit the sv hing but here you go you may be able to improve it abit ;)didn't take to many but will upload what i have so far first had a look through my box of trick's lol fount 2 steel bush's and nut's as in the picture welded together also agood well at the center were the thread is for good measure this was before welded then set it out over the flange and welded to frame each side but put bolt over level as to get in the right spot's and tack weld this is how it looks after weld and clean up also had to re put tank on and mark out were center bush was going and cut the flange for bush to sit in the right spot then tacked in the right spot will have to upload that tomorrow as forgot to take pic it's not as fancy as some would do it but I use what I have

Another thought that I should have mentioned earlier in my post was about building in some form of rubber anti vibration element to the hinge, a floating tank type thing, on rubber but also bolted to frame and hinge Its looking good, you just need to make the receiver / base plate, perhaps some nylon inserts for the attachment bolt.
