Wise words from Jazz (as always ;D)
Blitzman, sounds like you've had a tough time, but come out on top which is great to hear.
I'm amazed at how quickly people are active after reconstructive surgery. My dad's partner had her hip done at christmas and was home within a few days, then quickly out and about. She was back to normal (or I should say, better than normal) by end of February and says it has given her life back again.
I've other friends that have had knees or hips done and it's always a similar story, a few days in hospital, then home and get active.
Let's hope your story is like theirs Blitzman, then you should get a few miles ridden before the end of summer.

Ssssh Blitzman that special place on the North Yorks Moors is a local place, for local people - now everyone knows! Seriously though, an excellent event at an excellent venue for an excellent cause - who could stay away?
Pleased to hear that the dear old NHS has got you in the system for your Op, fingers crossed you'll be able to get your leg over (oooh err missus) without delay.

My newest other bike (click on thumbnail if you want to see a bigger image) I've been "entered" for a Triathlon later this year as our representative in a major competition. I run quite a lot, swim occassionaly, but only mountain bike from time to time over the moors when I'm at home. So I've been looking for a short while and found this, second hand in a bike shop and desperately in need of a new owner. Beer vouchers traded hands and I dashed back to my accommodation, dropped off the mighty Pan, changed, ran back to the shop and rode her home. What a machine! Alloy Frame, Kevlar Tyres and carbon everything else. Bought a speedo for it and averaged 18mph on a 23 mile ride (the shop was only 4 miles, I took the long way back). From a full suspension Mountain Bike this was quite a change though. I felt every bump, ripple and piece of gravel on the road and now realise how unbike fit I am. No worries though, the trip to Loomies tomorrow will be on the Pan!

Nice piece of kit, very nice. How are you finding the pedals or do you use that style off road?
I havs a road bike but not in the same style.

It's a gorgeous piece of engineering, but reminds me very much of a Subaru Impreza I drove once with rubber strips on the wheels (extremely low profile tyres) and rock hard low profile suspension. Superb handling and performance, but extremely uncomfortable and tiring to drive. I've just found a pair of Spinergy wheels on eBay.gum (Yorkshire's answer to eBay ;D). At present they're £315 cgi.ebay.co.uk/Spinergy-Rev-X-Carbon-4-Spoke-Aero-Wheelset-TT-Tri_W0QQitemZ150336918808QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR?hash=item150336918808&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1688|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 and that is cheap compared to some prices for different wheels I've found The pedals were a problem. They're SPD cleated and I do not have the shoes (I've usually preferred normal pedals with a cage and trainers - I used to do a lot of severe Mountain Bike racing and you're often on your feet dragging the bike up a muddy slope or through a river and I felt I would get my feet out quicker when the inevitable prang happened). I tried several pairs of shoes on, but found them a ridiculously narrow fit (and I do not have wide feet), so I decided to ride back with the cleated pedals and I'll bring some ordinary ones from home next time I come down. I was painfully aware of two areas - the small pedals pressing through soles of my trainers and that badass saddle - wow I may be walking a little like John Wayne at Loomies tomorrow!
