Hell yeah! Im happy to have one really early start for a long days riding, I really wouldnt mind getting up at sunrise, then bacon butties all round and enjoy morning air. something about early morning which is really nice and if that meant we could include loads of nice views and lots of nice scenery in a relaxed manner with plenty of stops then Id be very happy!

I like the idea of stops to stretch. Edwin with have been on the road for two long days though by the time we leave Gloucester so he may want to stay in bed a bit longer As a general plan its good, but can I suggest we fine tune as we go

Hows this look for an outline of day one? maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=209921130421246083217.0004c10371dbb51a5bdf5&msa=0&ll=51.943418,-3.573303&spn=0.708559,1.234589 It amounts to under 100 miles so theres plenty of room for detours. That's a short enough journey that it should be fairly easy and leave us fresh for the next day, Feel free to make any alterations and then put them up here as well maybe? How will we be navigating? Will some one with a satnav take the lead for most of it?

Just had a quick look. If that is 100 miles it hard to see us making North Wales. remember the plan is to start your day 1 on the Saturday morning. Been a long weekend I will look at distances again tomorrow night.
Re sat navs I don't have one yet, next years budget. GvS took the lead last year as he had his chosen route and a sat nav.
I am happy to lead or share the lead based on paper maps/sat navs but it will be a longer ride.
I go back to my point about not booking past the Friday night leaving us with the flexibility to reduce our targets as required.

Ok, I thought Id just draught a route around the three camp sites mentioned earlier, and also, we can get to Dolgellau near mid snowdonia in only 80 miles via a very scenic route through the Elan valley, how about we head north from Brecon on the Saturday, and make our way to a campsite in roughly 150 miles, then the next morning we go straight for criccieth before making our way back south? Should we go a little further on the first day through wales and get further north then? We can stop anywhere along the route actually, I was just working with the camping spots mentioned before but that can change, How does this look for the route from Brecon to North Snowdonia, quite happy with the first bit, think it looks fun, if we spread it more accross the two days then we can elaborate the route more in the northern bit, not many small roads up in the northern bit of the national park. goo.gl/maps/mROi

Don't get me wrong good input but Edwin will not be in Gloucester region till the Friday evening. He is riding as far as us to get to our start point.

No problem with the 10 page Snowdon thread I started the route thread. With hindsight it may not have been a good idea. Such is life. Anyway to recap. Latest Plan so far: (routes etc are still open for change as they were created weeks ago) 31st August After work leave Bournemouth ride towards Gloucester (approx 100 miles). 1st Sept Leave Gloucester and ride through mid Wales and Camp near Snowdon. (approx 140 miles) maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Gloucester,+UK&daddr=51.90152,-2.96236+to:51.8819229,-2.9820881+to:51.891117,-3.0024749+to:52.4563529,-3.5461821+to:52.4733496,-3.5830248+to:Snowdonia+National+Park&hl=en&ll=52.301761,-2.938843&spn=1.656005,5.410767&sll=52.470338,-3.564548&sspn=0.051554,0.169086&geocode=FbViFwMdNNnd_ynP8uv2-_1wSDHPGeghlptw7A%3BFVD0FwMdSMzS_ymLhM2GHtJxSDFhh4vMI4sNEw%3BFcKnFwMdOH_S_ynvi1PNntFxSDFQJkPHI4sNEw%3BFa3LFwMdli_S_ylrgS3EZNFxSDHh-kLHI4sNEw%3BFaBrIAMduuPJ_ykBWsNZvu1vSDFjuRnBUWxMOg%3BFQWuIAMd0FPJ_ykretKaYu1vSDEhBZrCI4sNEw%3BFXbKJAMdMLXE_yGne_kD1ct__w&mra=dpe&mrsp=5&sz=13&via=1,2,3,4,5&t=m&z=8 2 Sept Pack up and ride round (Route and distance yet to be considered then later in the day head South (approx 100 miles) and camp again. maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Snow....&t=h&mra=ls&z=93rd Sept Head back to Bournemouth. (approx 170 miles) maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=llandovery&daddr=51.51111,-2.15304+to:Poole,+UK&hl=en&ll=51.433464,-2.043457&spn=1.688282,5.410767&sll=51.426614,-1.422729&sspn=0.84427,2.705383&geocode=FdNqGQMd_A3G_ynBdpA0Da1vSDFZ6yh5-YfGzQ%3BFUb_EQMdsCXf_ykxlUohYnBxSDGCxLN2E7J4eg%3BFbXoBQMdPbrh_ynNzkKNtaBzSDGnWBlplKLRsA&oq=Poo&t=h&mra=dpe&mrsp=1&sz=9&via=1&z=8

Ah ok, yeah might be worth revising the routes over time, especially the first day. Thats covering a lot of distance in the shortest way, the A470 is more of an A to B road rather than a holiday road for the southern half and is mostly just edged by tall hedgerows or trees so its efficient, but not particularly picturesque, if we spread the journey north over 2 days we can actually get to see some of the countryside, there're several places which imho are absolutely unmissable natural beauty spots, it would be a shame to go all that way on one road! how does this look? goo.gl/maps/nm1PTake street view on some of the smaller roads and have a look on the route around the following co-ordinates: 52.258912,-3.589783 (Caban Coch reservoir, network of reservoirs with stunning dams and amazing scenery, some cool old bridges as well and nice twisty waters edge roads) 51.848292,-3.224659 Gorgeous mountain pass in the Brecons, 52.381232,-3.701041 Little detour track, not sure if byway or highway but streetview car got up there, lovely little fjords and water crossings, bridges, views, looks like a nice place for a lunch break. 52.109589,-3.516741 Another hill pass, the B4519, really elevated road, nice view points. Looks like quite a roller coaster! 52.958411,-4.034901 Let me know what you think, although this will add another 40 or so miles to the A470, it probably wont be as tiring a journey as non stop a roads. comes out at 250 miles across 2 days which will probably end up being more like 300 if we include detours, road closures, finding camping places, (getting lost if Im navigating!) which across 2 days seems about right to me? plus well only need to fill up once!

I like the route very much but I need to be back home on the monday evening. That would put me 2-3 days from home on the Monday morning. All that said, I like the route and I can always head home, as you push north. I just don't have the time to do it all this trip.
