I only ever use my centrestand, as the sidestand appears to be too short - the bike doesn't feel at all stable on the sidestand.
So, I'm wondering if there's a third party stand that fits, that sticks out further for a bit more confidence that the bike won't fall over. Anyone got any pointers please?

Too short? really? Mine almost doesn't lean at all when on the side stand....I get scared it will tip over to the other side :/ (it never did though) Perhaps the trick is to ehm, bend it to the correct angle? Or perhaps try one from another NTV? (should be cheap to get)

can you upload a pic of yours? then we can determine if it is ok in the first place, and maybe tell if a replacement standard one is all you need?

I'm with Buzzin and Groovy. The sidestand should be a good length and sit at the right angle allowing the bike to stand normally.
It's quite likely that your existing sidestand has been altered, swapped for a non standard one or the bracket has been altered.
Is it possible to submit a photo showing your aNTy on her side stand?

Sounds a fair approach - I will do that tomorrow, I actually have some free time, which is in very short supply at the moment!

I only use my centre stand:
1. When filling up. 2. When I wash the bike.
Other than that I am a major side stand fan.

I only use my centre stand for maintenance and washing. For filling up I also use the side stand.

I sit on my bike when filling up....no stand (uphill....both ways ) Anything else I use the centre stand, the side stand is only for while getting off the bike

Fantastic weather today, in amongst riding this morning I took a few pics of my side stand. As far as I can tell it's the original item, but I'm not 100% sureā¦ I left the bike on the centrestand to get the best view of it. Any chance of a couple of shots of it on the side stand?
The stand looks the same as mine.
Does the hanger its on look bent?

Sure, will do that next weekend, I'm off travelling again, Massachusetts this time, closer than Japan but still 5 hours time difference.
I was thinking the sidestand might just be my imagining it should be bigger, longer, wider, having seen stands on other bikes that don't have me looking back 3 or 4 times to check they haven't fallen over. Possibly, I might just need to get over myself and use sidestand only for a few days. Hmmm.....

For a direct comparison to a V-Strom you in this album: V-Strom dl1000 + NTV 650 RevereI added this picture....if the lean angle is the same as this....it's normal (I have pictures of three NTV's next to eachother....all at the same angle)

Having said I have had no problems, I do like the side stand on the Strom.

Thanks for that - kind of reinforces my current diagnosis, i.e. I need to get my head around trusting the side stand. In theory, it's better than the centre stand for spread of contact points..... ...getting there.....
