My theory is to travel as light as I can. for me 3 nights away so if I take 2 packet dinners to ensure I won't starve. Dry food and energy bars to fill the gaps.
Tea bags and powder milk.
Then simple food when available. I will be on the look out for some welsh cakes if I can find some.
Last year it was very hot riding. This year I plan to take a litre of water in one of those hydration bags on my back.

My idea is also to travel as light as possible and pack only the necessary things. Food can always be bought in a supermarket or so.
Energy bars is a good option for an on the road snack, and ofcourse enough water.

Last year it was very hot riding. This year I plan to take a litre of water in one of those hydration bags on my back. If you can: borrow one and try it first. I have one & I didn't use it on last years trip, because I found it impossible to ride & drink at the same time (not enough room under the helmet). That meant that I'd have to stop for a drink anyway, so I just took two water bottles. GvS

Like the route, but it looks like Gloucester is out of the picture now?

edwinsp sorry for the confusion. I was just playing with google map to find some small roads. Gloucester is still in the plan I was just looking for some roads in Wales. Nearer the time we can firm up the 'Gloucester site'. For me the Gloucester site could be anywhere along the M4 strip between Newbury and Gloucester. What time on the Friday do you think you will reach the Gloucester site? rj

Good, it is a good ride from Ashford. The lack of presure will give you time to get used to riding on our roads. (wrong side of the road for you )
