Just had a quick play with a route. Reading this and your first post: Plan so far: 1st SeptLeave Bournemouth ride through mid Wales and Camp near Snowdon. 2 SeptPack up and ride round heading to mid Wales and camp again. 3rd SeptHead back to Bournemouth. I think the first and last days of this trip will be perhaps a bit too much. Just compare this distance (and the type of roads !) to the distance we covered on the 2nd day of our trip last year (from Ashford to the New Forest). I can remember that I was pretty knackered by the time we got to that campsite in Brockenhurst. GvS

Opps. Point very well made! As a rough estimate our Ashford to the New Forest ride was approx 180 miles. The most I have done is 220 on good roads. The route curently for day 1 is approx 280 miles. I think I may plan to ride north on the friday after work to get a head start on the run to Snowdon. The first part of the ride I have done many times so leaving more time for the run through Wales. I may need to plan a more direct route home. Latest Plan so far: 31st August After work leave Bournemouth ride towards Gloucester (approx 100 miles). 1st Sept Leave Gloucester and ride through mid Wales and Camp near Snowdon. (approx 150 miles) maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Gloucester,+UK&daddr=51.90152,-2.96236+to:Snowdonia+National+Park&hl=en&ll=52.288323,-3.059692&spn=1.656507,5.410767&sll=52.30512,-3.004761&sspn=1.655879,5.410767&geocode=FbViFwMdNNnd_ynP8uv2-_1wSDHPGeghlptw7A%3BFVD0FwMdSMzS_ymLhM2GHtJxSDFhh4vMI4sNEw%3BFXbKJAMdMLXE_yGne_kD1ct__w&oq=snowdon&t=h&mra=ls&via=1&z=8 2 Sept Pack up and ride round (Route and distance yet to be considered then later in the day head South (approx 100 miles) and camp again. maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Snowdonia+National+Park&daddr=llandovery&hl=en&ll=51.862924,-2.938843&spn=0.836185,2.705383&sll=52.1554,-3.411255&sspn=0.837478,2.705383&geocode=FXbKJAMdMLXE_yGne_kD1ct__w%3BFdNqGQMd_A3G_ynBdpA0Da1vSDFZ6yh5-YfGzQ&t=h&mra=ls&z=9 3rd Sept Head back to Bournemouth. (approx 170 miles)

I've looked at the drive to Bournemouth sofar.
As it looks now the first day august 31 I will head to Dunkerque and take the Ferry to Dover.
Probably will take a campsite near Dover and drive toward Bournemouth or Gloucester the next day.
It all depends on how the route to Wales will be.

Aah.. you've probably read the post about our visit last year ( www.ntvhonda.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=logwayround&action=display&thread=2291). Then you'll probably also know which campsite to use near Dover: ( www.thedruminn.com/). GvS

By the night of the 31st I will be in Gloucester.
When GvS and Buzzin came over last year they camped near Ashford in Kent.
This would put you in Ashford and me in Gloucester on the Morning of 1st Sept!
Ignoring that small detail of a 280 mile shortest distance to Snowdonia! Longer if you want to select some nice roads.
Much as I do not want to put you off, GvS's post re distances today does raise some concerns for me for the distances we all plan to travel. I remember our thought last year, that our 180 mile trip was too far. In as much we were knackered in addition to the fact that there was not much time to stop and look at anything.

The distances are indeed a concern, have to look into that.
Maybe I'll have to take one extra day of leave...

The plan now is to leave home august 30th, take the Ferry from Dunkirk to Dover and camp near Ashford, then on august 31st drive to Gloucester and meet up with Roger and the rest that are going.
I think this should work.
Any suggestions?
