It looks like it is coming on well. Sounds like you have been lucky with all the bargins you have got so far. In the way of colour red does look good and its easier seen than black but I'd hate to think of all the cleaning that you would need to do to a white bike .

Looks good so far, It looks like you are rubbing the frame down and painting it yourself. I really wouldnt bother i stripped mine bare and delivered in to a powder coaters in chesterfield. I thought after the sandblasting it would be peppered full of holes. But it came out of there 4 days later looking brand new. They did an amazing job for £80, Powder coat is a much more durable and better finish than anything you can do yourself. Then 3 years on when i sold her she still looked mint with no rust peeping its ugly head through. The only bug bear is you need a tap set to clean out all the threads in the frame afterwards, but that is to be expected. And the swingarm threads need a wire brush in a drill to clean them out as the thread is micro fine. ed

someone may prove me wrong here but i dont think so....
Powder coat only works on metal due to the process involving passing a negative current through the piece to be coated. and a positve charge through the powder coat particles.
This is how the coverage is so even and uniform the powder coat is literally is sucked to the metal, it is then baked at between 150-300 degrees celcius for a couple of hours to bond the particles together. This gives it strength and a lovely smooth finish.

OK, not too much to report from the last week i'm afraid - family stuff takes priority sometimes...... ;D anyway, the frame is primed and painted (hammerite silver smooth FTW ) the panels and tank are all painted in finest matt black, although this may get changed to gloss at some point, i'll see what takes my fancy once I get it all looking like a bike again. i have polished up the footpeg hangers, and i will start reassembling them soon. the exhaust can has been polished, but would benefit from another run over, as will the downpipes. the engine mount has been repaired(ish) and the broken stud on the coolant hose mount has finally been removed after welding a new nut onto it so, as it stands, in a week or so, i will be in a position to start putting her back together, and hopefully having a running bike again ;D more updates with more pics to follow in a week or so when i finish night shifts. cheers all, Lee
