Normally I always work in the same place; I rarely get to go somewhere else for my day-to-day activities. But this morning I went to visit a new client in the west of Holland. And because today (only today !) the weather is fine over here, I took my bike for the trip: It's about 1 hr & 45 min of (mostly) motorways, passing some of our busiest roads. And I had to do it during morning rush hour It was a good practice for my trip to the forum meeting next week. Somewhere near Amsterdam, I was filtering through traffic, that was moving slower & slower. I saw a police Volvo pass the traffic jam over the hard shoulder with it's blue lights on, so I knew something had happened. Coming to the front of the traffic jam (which had stopped completely) I saw that a small carpenter's van had lost a load of wooden boards. But the carpenter had stopped his van on the left-hand side (which is the center of the road to us) to clear up the rubbish The policemen had decided to block the entire side of the motorway, to clear up the mess. So I got off my bike & helped the policemen & carpenter to clear it up. As a "thank you" the policeman let me through, before he let the rest of the cars get on their way. So I had a nice stretch of completely empty motorway (the Amsterdam ring road !) all to myself ;D ;D ;D ;D GvS

kudos for the help you gave and the officer for the head start. Just noted that zwolle is somewhere i stayed in Holland when i was a lad. mates dad moved their and we stopped over for a week. Highlight was walking into a chip shop, not easlly getting my message across that i wanted tomato sauce on my chips, i embarrassingly snatching the 'red' bottle of the guy when offered and pouring a huge amount on to my chips (starving as well ) And then had the pleasure of stepping outside and having to eat the lot with the giggling chip shop owner watching as i tucked into to my strawberry sauce and chips.... what is all that mayonnaise stuff all about....... the entire worlds know its....salt Vinegar and ketchup on chips never mayo....... ;D

Sounds like a nice trip GvS Jaz: NO. Yes it's salt & vinegar on chips ... but just because the British confused chips with crisps doesn't mean we have to .... silly people... must be island folk chips are the thin slices of potato (pronunciation may vary) baked and covered with salt&vinegar. Crisps are the noise that bugs make when you step on them. The deep fried square-ish sticks are called frites, patat, french fries or just delicious These can be covered in Ketchup, mayo, fritessaus, Sateh (peanut sause), Currysaus (no...not that kind of curry) etc. In the Netherlands: Mayo = met (with....indicating With mayo) Speciaal = Mayo + ketchup (and sometime onions) Oorlog (WAR) = Mayo + Sateh + onions (may vary per location) So next time you go for chips....get a bag of walkers..... If however you fancy a nice fried meal...order frites or fries with ketchup (is a universal word ) That's the end of this service announcement...
