One advantage of the stubby is that the rider gets to hear the exhaust note better than with the longer version. I'm all in favour of recycling, and am pleased to see that the old exhaust lives to putt another day.
The collector box under the engine may be a monstrous, rust gathering thing, but it does seem to stop a lot of muck being thrown from the wheel onto the silencer itself. Certainly my replacement stainless one always seems to get plastered with muck or salt as soon as the roads get dirty, which I didn't see when I had the original fitted.
Anyhow, glad to see you're pleased with the result!

Hi All, On the subject of exhausts my mate has just got a BROS 400 and the exhaust is a stubby type like the NTV 650 P, does anybody know if they are the same and can you still get them either genuine or pattern, also part numbers if you can please. Mick.,

You could try honda for a real one....but that's gonna set you back a lot of beertokens if they still have it, and no aftermarket ones have the collector or stubby exhaust I think (which is a real shame....I like the look) I don't know if they are the same, although I don't see why they should differ, only the downlink pipes should be different.
Ok, just read back the rest of the thread....I almost forgot the Hawk/Bros have different mounting points for some things, and the exhaust might be one of them, but I am not sure how they differ.

Actually, rereading the nice howto from franklin....I might just do the same thing Just to check/protect on the exhaust, and to fit the centrestand stop.

Hi jcb. I'm too old for these metric measurments all the VW exhaust trims on e-bay are 20mm by 275mm but surly that would fall in to my NTV downpipes or am I missing something. What VW parts did you use thought I might try it out. Also been looking at slash pipes at Busters two of them over the top would look good, or some pipe from the local metal mercant. Trouble is I would probably need a dyno tune as well Hmmmm. Mick.

i know this is a old and possibly tired thread, but i thought it better to reopen then create anew, does anyone know the exact diameter of the downpipes from the ntv? and also, where could i get a look at these vw trims?

does anyone know the exact diameter of the downpipes from the ntv? At the business (silencer) end they are both 38mm outside diameter. But bear in mind that at the engine end they are slightly different where could i get a look at these vw trims? Afraid I cannot help there

your eternally helpful my friend, what would the rozzers make of trim exhausts on anything but a massive cruiser i wonder?
Key:- Rozzers is local slang for police problamatics (officers even)
