Hi RJ2, Have you got the summer & camping in your head as well ? My wife is starting to ask me: "Have you finished preparing your motorbike for the summer now ? Because there are other jobs to do as well you know" I made enquiries at several campsite's again, but only got one reply. Perhaps they get scared as soon as they read "motorbike" and "group" in the e-mail. I did get a reply from: www.longmeadowcaravans.co.uk/index.html:
Thank you for your enquiry.
Our policy is no single sex groups.. however this is to preclude the younger age group who may consider this a cheap place to get paralytic. we aim for the small family groups and couples who are happy to forego loud music and noise after 11pm etc. I am sure that you would fall into the latter rather than former. I am happy to take a maximum of 6 pitches for the night, however I am not sure whether this site would be suitable for your NTVs' as all pitches are on grass, without solid bases for the stands. Each pitch is £16 per night for upto 2 adults. I would suggest that Round Hill campsite which is just outside Beaulieu may be a better option as it has concrete road sections and some concrete pads, they also take groups. They are operated by Forest Holidays and can be easily found on google and booked online. If you do decide to stay with us, please forward the names, addresses and phone numbers for each pitch required. Happy wheeling!
Kind regards, Alan Warden
Long Meadow Campsite New Park Brockenhurst SO42 7QHThe problem with this campsite is that it isn't very close to anywhere: it's a 35 min walk to the nearest pub. However, Round Hill requires a booking of (at least) 2 nights, when booking in advance (GBP 12,50 per pitch, per night). BUT, the website now states that it has got showers !GvS

I also received a reply from Annie Cooper from: www.explorethenewforest.co.uk/acres.htmlThank you for your enquiry.
I have attached info about our family campsite with prices etc
We do not take pre bookings here but you should be fine with your dates. The price is GBP 10 per pitch per night. Extra cost for a shower (only 2 available for the whole campsite): GBP 1,=. But the big bonus is the full english breakfast for only GBP 6,50 ;D ;D Click here for the info: www.stoeretassen.nl/My_NTV650/Camping%20Info%20Acres%20down.pdfGvS

I finally received a reply from the Ashurst campsite: they won't make an exception to the 2-nights-booking-rule for us as a group. They also expect their campsite to be full at that time of the year.....

This one sounds just the job. Price good and looks ok for a single night. Shower. Pub close enough to walk to. Breakfast. R.

Roger, Have you read my last post good enough ? The Ashurst campsite won't make an exception for us. That means that you have to book (at least) two nights AND PAY FOR THEM (I assume) even thought you're only staying one night. That means one night campsite costs 26 pounds per pitch. That is expensive compared to others. But compared to the whole cost of coming over (fuel / ferry etc.) it's not such a big deal. And I agree that walking distance to a pub is a very important feature of this campsite GvS

I had missed that. But given the extra you are paying to come I am happy to go with your decision. As the difference is not going to stop me coming.

It looks as though the £10 is for a pitch with two adults
Why not share a tent?

It looks as though the £10 is for a pitch with two adults Why not share a tent? No thanx Unless you're a blond nymphomaniac I prefer to sleep alone in the tent. The walking distance to the pub is a very good feature for the Ashurst campsite. But I must admit an addiction to the fully cooked English breakfast, which is a very nice feature of the Acres Down campsite. We could start a poll about which campsite is the favorite. GvS

English Breakfast works for me. Second vote on single tents. If Jaz comes McF you could share with him he brought a 4 man tent last time. I think he is blond though, so watch out, he could be in high demand.

Tesco's have a self inflating campermat at £15, which rolls nice and small. Sorted. Not as good as the top kit but it will do the job for bike camping.

I do like the adventure of not booking a site. Count me in. Rj I trust we will find a place to sleep, but I must admit to be a tiny bit worried. You're OK. If you can't find a place to sleep, you just ride home & sleep in your own bed. It's practically in your back garden ;D (Which makes me think: we could all camp in RJ's garden ) GvS
