This sounds like a good idea I did 70 miles last friday, my new front tyre needed bedding in (sorry no pics) and had a great ride upto Salisbury then initially heading towards Blanford then I was distracted ending up in the twisty lanes heading home via Ringwood.
Then back out to the new forest over the weekend and a good blast home in all the sunshine.
Boxhill takes me back as I lived in Merstham as a boy. Small world.
Roger.

By the way 'my new front tyre needed bedding in'
what a cracking excuse for spending a whole day out on

The page is a simple idea, have a ride to somewhere,
scenic perhaps, take a pic, show the group. !
That way we all get to see the likely bikers sites
everyone else seems to go on about and we may
even be tempted to go see for ourselves how good
they really are.

A Great idea Jaz,
That silver NTV looks great by the way.....
Unfortunately I’m one of those luddites who still hasn’t got a digital camera yet. But I’ve been thinking about buying this road atlas. Looks like a good site in general if you’re looking for the most scenic routes in different areas.

We must read the same bike mag Jake, the flyer is still by my bed. Its good to be able to look at some of the rides on line, and clicking on your link did prompt the look.
I like the idea of a waterproof book, I have been thinking this week that perhaps the next time lidl sell a laminator I may get one then with the help of multimap...
so may ideas and such little time.
Time is the issue for meeting up but if we post a route for the monthly ride here at the very lest we will build up a list of good rides. It would be good to try and meet up if we can.

RJ spot on mate, time is of the essence, given the English Summer.
Putting up routes (sic) now would be a good
as it would plant the idea of where to go for biker meets, nice and early in forum members minds.
Guess you are in the 'southern' sector RJ, what about you Jake?
A shout to Norfolk, any ideas from your way of where people might meet up, and who might turn up..?
Not too sure if the southern sector might be easier for you to get to?
Enjoy the ride everyone

Well, I had a nice day out
First, a HUGE meet up of alot of members of the Dutch Motor-forum. Around 550 people signed up, and alot of people showed up without signing up....and some didn't come that did sign up :/
For a short overview of how big it was: picasaweb.google.com/buzzins.pet.rock/MFMegaMeetMei08
Ow, the only bike related to my NTV parked right behind me, it's the Hawk on the pic
On the sliproad to the parkinglot alot of stunts were done, wheelies, burnouts, stoppies and ..well..crashes (fortunatly the crashes were minor)
After about two hours we all got on the bike and drove to another hangout...just completely coincidental also at a mcdonalds
Here the not so closed road was used for even more spectacular wheelies and posing with sound (drive by really fast in low gear)
The time for me to leave was when the local youth was taking over in 'cool' cars and mopeds....in other word...idiots
Later that day I took a short drive to the coast....I usually go there if I have some time to spare and feel like a short drive.
Some quick pics here: picasaweb.google.com/buzzins.pet.rock/Zandvoort20080518

Where is that bridge in the second pic?
(I wish we had mountains/hills around here big enough for those sort of things....and the roads to match)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original post by McF
The bridge is in Bristol, it's called the "Clifton Suspension Bridge", built by a very famous british engineer from the victorian era - Isambard Kingdom Brunel (that's his real name!).
It's an iconic landmark and listed monument. Designed for lighter traffic loads (mainly horse drawn), it's coping very well with high volumes of modern traffic.
Sadly, it's also the site for many people's attempts to end their own lives.
Just got in to Bristol and needed to find my hotel so pushed for time. By a lucky chance I found the lock system from where I grabbed the photo. My offspring (19 and 17) think my new phone is very "mod". I needed to upgrade in order to have bluetooth compatible with SatNav and Helmet system. It's also got a camera, video, FM radio etc etc. Having a digital camera everywhere I go is quite handy.

Hi all ,
Just back from a local ride I thought I would share.
Washed the bike first thing so I needed to ride it to dry her off.
Oh and scrub in my tyres some more to make them safer
Anyway back to the ride.
Out of Poole and onto the A35 for Dorchester. 60mph road all the way.
Turn off left at Bere Regis and the speed drops to 30mph with yards and is followed by a sharp left. Almost dropped her here some months back in the wet so now I give the speed limit lots of respect. Here anyway. Always good round town.
Off up the road towards Monkey World (as another aside, also worth a visit) I you are lucky and get a clear run there is a get right and left open set of bends which can be taken at speed.
Passed Monkey World and down the hill, yet to see any but said locally to be good for police speed down to 60 and enjoy the view.
Just north of Wool take a left at the round about onto the A352 for Wareham. Another fast road with good safe pass points and some good views off to the right.
Just outside Wareham turn right at the round about for Corfe on the A351.
Just outside Corfe turn left onto the B3351 a twisty road I have driven the car down previously but never the bike. (I will be back) Great views and fab bends.
i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj47/RJ2Para/Studland1.jpg
A view back across the bay to Poole.
Lots more good views, with the road following the bay all the way rond to the chain ferry. Just made the ferry (goes ever 15 mins) 80p single back over the Poole channel entrance.
i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj47/RJ2Para/Studland2.jpg
Then a quick stop in the bay to watch the paddlers, kite flyers etc.
i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj47/RJ2Para/PooleBay1.jpg
Then off home via tesco's which was the actual reason for going out. I did tell my wife I was going the 'long way round'.
The end of another good day off work.

Nice pics, beach scene looked great.
Wish we had something similar around here,
closest we got is view of the thames.....
Road sounds good, and
[Quote; Almost dropped her here some months back in the wet so now I give the speed limit lots of respect']
amazing how well learned some lessons can be.
Took a tumble a few years ago on a right handed bend, still find myself being doubtful in some R/h corners...
(Ps Looks like paint is rubbing off on that R/h panel?)
[Quote; Then off home via tesco's which was the actual reason for going out. I did tell my wife I was going the 'long way round'.]

Only 5 minutes away but taking me 1-2 hours just to get the milk....

Nice one Jaz.
I have managed 3 rides this weekend. Don't you just love summer.
"Looks like paint is rubbing off on that R/h panel?"
Yes the paint is coming off
i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj47/RJ2Para/IMAGE_025.jpg
Both sides were sprayed by a previous owner "the black patch" my brothers leg then wore away the paint as shown above.
As I have said elsewhere she has done 90. Hence the wear.
Lots of pollish this weekend and bug polish on the wheels.
The bug polish improved the look of the footpeg supports but if you have any tips for a better cleaner I am interested.
Next on the list is new rear pads seals etc.
"Took a tumble a few years ago on a right handed bend, still find myself being doubtful in some R/h corners... "
I found a local round about at the back of an industrial estate the other day and having seen how far the Revere can lean over I am much more confident. (my wife says I am having a mid life crises - but it makes me smile ) You should give it a go. I had the pipe about 4 inches off the deck acording to my mate. Still did not get my knee anywhere near the floor.
I plan to do the police bike safe course later this year. maybe they will teach me
Roger

Hi Roger
Pretty good nick for 90k.. . Polishes up nice for an oldie
Quote:
(wife says I am having a mid life crises - but it makes me smile )
Ah but what a nice crisis.....
fair play on the 'Training', good idea to push yourself that bit further.
Trying various methods of taking corners. Countersteering and leaning off bike that bit more
(altho do feel a bit of a tw@t round my local roads... )
perfectly ok with left handed bends, wonder if i the fact
that throttle is on R/h side makes countersteering feels odd
or does shaft drive 'Torque' have any impact on R/h -L/h turns?
Probably just me having a mental block (and no bottle... )
but I dont see me ever getting the knee down......
More like, Knee down, hip down, arse down...Oh F***....
Suppose some sort of driving course would be a good idea, ages since i had any training.
(btw what does the police course contain, is it the Bikesafe one?)
Enjoy &
ride safe

Thanks she's my first big bike and I am having a ball. I want to make her look the best I can without taking her off the road for cosmetics. Any Idea if I could brush paint the engine. (Sorry if this offends anybody )
As you say nice crisis.....
One handed around a round about is supposed to help learn countersteering aparently. Let me know if you plan to try it
I dont see me ever getting the knee down...... nor can I on the revere. I did feel next step was:
Quote:
More like, Knee down, hip down, arse down...Oh F***....
that line did kill me lol almost hurt I laughed so much.
Yes I plan to do the Dorset version of Bikesafe. 4 hours am or pm
My Brother did Bikesafe in Gloucestershire and it was two Sunday mornings.
Still worth doing though, and could be a cure for right hand bend syndrome.
Are you left handed by any chance?

Hi Roger
Paint brush the engine...
Don't know but i think Derbyshire bill or pops had a thread
on here about the actual engine colour.
(do know i got blue overspray on the cylinder head, can vouch that paint WILL stick, can not get the bugger off mine!!)
Can ride one handed or even no hands....
so will probably try your suggestion, obviously with ONE hand at least..
Quote:Are you left handed by any chance?
M8, what are you suggesting.....................
No, natural right hander...........
Bikesafe course should be on my To-Do list
(Any idea of cost? )

What ho!
first time on for quite a while, been busy again.
I'm sure any course will be good for improving technique and discovering your bad habits. If you're wanting to improve high speed cornering, have you considered a track day? I haven't tried one, but hear they're an excellent opportunity for learning the bike's and your own limits in a safe environment. I was talking to someone last week who sang their praises and told me that instruction, guidance etc is part of the package. We didn't really discuss costs but I'd guess you're looking at £100 or so. I'm a BMW club member and the monthly mag often has stories of people on track days, including the Nurburgring (hope I spelt that right!).
I've been clocking up many miles recently, mainly on business trips, but managed a social day out with a friend I work with. She recently passed her test, bought a 600 Bandit and was keen to build up experience. We rode out from Gosport through the New Forest and ended up in Lymington for a brew. An excellent day out; she rode very well too. Just reading RJ's ride details I realise he must be only down the road. We may try his route next weekend I end up staying down here.
Had to go for a couple of meetings in central London yesterday and hated it! I don't know how you guys that do it every day manage to stay sane and in one piece. In a suit, I took a cab between two locations and watched dozens of bikers in shorts and tee shirts and thought how much gravel rash they could end up with - Owww

Not a ride out more of a drive.
I drove down to Poole Quay with the wife and kids for sausage and chips.
Not my pics but it will give you a feel for the evening.
www.snakespix.co.uk/bikenight.htm#2008
There were 1000 bikes on the Quay and 700 in the overflow carpark.
Very good atmosphere no wheelies etc but a great evening.
So if you are down on a tuesday over the summer why not drop down the Quay. Just remember a quid to get your bike on the Quay. then grab a drink at one of the pubs and a burger.

eh?
I never have that problem
It's the reaction time that counts, and I got that down nicely....even an NTV can 'win' a little sprint. Ok, maybe not from a Hyabusa, but just wait for the first corner and you will find it weeping there
I like having this bike...shows I don't care to much about the looks or the age....and can still keep up....as long as second gear doesn't let me down :/

Hi rj
Nice pics, beach scene looked great.
Wish we had something similar around here,
closest we got is view of the thames.....
Road sounds good, and
[Quote; Almost dropped her here some months back in the wet so now I give the speed limit lots of respect']
amazing how well learned some lessons can be.
Took a tumble a few years ago on a right handed bend, still find myself being doubtful in some R/h corners...
(Ps Looks like paint is rubbing off on that R/h panel?)

lol.
Mine stopped sending me to shops, once i got bike.
Only 5 minutes away but taking me 1-2 hours just to get the milk....
Ride safe
& enjoy

(Any idea of cost? )
Ride safe

What ho!
first time on for quite a while, been busy again.

Hi
Mcf your right, i should do a track day,
but i just dont think i would enjoy it...
(Probably just feel a bit of tit on an NTV....
it's bad enough just commuting when the biking 'Exotica'
pulls up next to me at the lights, you know the;
Ducatis, BMW's, Hyabusas, Buells, and pizza delivery tw@ts...
...........D@mn this inferiority complex... )
but i might do it One day..............
Roger cheers for post, very informative
(sometimes it just needs that little push
to do something) think when i get forks done i might
enrol in a course
(do one from the 'Ace', only down the road from me.. )
You all ride safe
(be careful, sunshine brings out the
boy racer in some car drivers )

Jaz
eh?
I never have that problem
It's the reaction time that counts, and I got that down nicely....even an NTV can 'win' a little sprint. Ok, maybe not from a Hyabusa, but just wait for the first corner and you will find it weeping there
I like having this bike...shows I don't care to much about the looks or the age....and can still keep up....as long as second gear doesn't let me down :/
Then again, I have never been a fan of supersports bikes, or choppers....so well, guess I got the right bike then
