I think the deauville is a great replacement for the NTV if you want a fairing. It has all the advantages of the NTV plus some plastic Downside are mostly looks: the plastic and the loss of the single sided swingarm. However much I dislike some of the looks of the deauville 650, it's likely I'll buy one if the Revere ever gives up... SHHHHH....(I hope the Revere didn't hear that)

Oh no - not more candidates for the pipe and slippers brigade!
Seriously, though, we need to encourage more Deauville owners to contribute to the forum to help ensure its future. Long lasting though the NTV is, there will be less and less of them as time goes by. To many, the appeal of the NTV is its versatility. It can scratch around the twisties with the best of them, with its good ground clearance and predictable handling. You can fit panniers and a screen and go touring, or go the whole hog and fit a fairing. They are tough, and will withstand minor spills without big repair bills.
With the Deauville you get the fairing and panniers with no choice so many buyers will look elsewhere for a naked bike. Who will be the first to "streetfighter" a Deauville? Would a naked bike based on the Deauville be a seller like the NTV?
Like the older NTV the Deauville has a reputation for being tough, long lasting and cheap to run though like outlaw I've heard doubts expressed about the build quality compared to older "made in Japan" Hondas.
Perhaps there is someone out there who can give their experiences of the Deauville, especially as it's the sort of bike that an owner with particular needs might buy several of over the years? That could give a perspective of how the different models compare with each other.
Would it not be a good idea to give Deauville related threads a section of their own as it's more likely to catch someone's eye there?

Not a big fan of dullville's myself I have had 3 of them and the build quality is nowhere near Ntv standard.
Problems worth noting (from my experience) paintwork on frame forks wheels is poor, chome on forks is not as tough, pannier's wear out quickly and clocks fail.
They are very hard to "streetfighter" due to fairing/tank design.
Still better than most of the opposition but a big dissapointment for me in comparison to an ntv!

i had 1..they go round corners almost as good as an ntv but much heavier..build quality is not great and not as reliable as an ntv in my experience

Cheers GvS. Off to bed now but after a quick glance it sounds like that was a major upgrade model. I was looking at older bikes. I need to read more. Cheers. Roger Knee down on the Deauville while smoking a pipe, there's a thought Micawber. ;D. Sod the slippers though bike boots for me.

No, GvS, I don't know the chap. In fact, I only discovered this site yesterday. My impression of what sites there were, particularly for the Deauville, was that they were not up to date, with posts a few years old, so it is nice to find a site with current posts, if you follow the "owners" link from the main site.
The main site is interesting too, as this biker shows his enjoyment in owning long term and riding some allegedly deeply unfashionable bikes which happened to meet his riding needs. I too have ridden many obscure and unfashionable bikes in my time. And enjoyed them! So I know where he's coming from.

I've already contacted Rob Davis (the owner/builder of the site). And we're going to exchange links on each other's site's. GvS
